Bettie Page: Heaven Bound

Opening Party

May 2, 2009 - World of Wonder Gallery, Hollywood, CA

Report by Bobby Hogg on the Bettie Page: Heaven Bound art show on Saturday Evening, May 2.

"The Bettie Page show was so incredible...everything I expected, from the art to the crowd. In attendance were...Mamie Van Doren, Julie Newmar, Dita Von Teese, Mark Ryden and his wife Marion Peck, Tim Biskup, Elvira (aka Casandra Peterson), Perez Hilton, James St James, Olivia De Barardinis, Lenora Claire, Bobby Trendy, and countless Bettie wannabes (male and female). The rest of the crowd was so fun. This was the best people watching event I've been to my entire life. It was a fabulous circus. UNBELIEVABLE! We had such a fun night; two of my cousins went with me. It was at the "World of Wonder Gallery" on Hollywood Blvd, a few blocks from the Chinese Theatre...and I'm glad we got there early; when we walked out, the line to get in was two blocks long. This is just one of the artworks from the show, which, overall, was really great. This was the first "art tribute show" to Bettie since Bettie's death in December; you could almost call it a memorial service, as far as people coming out to pay tribute, but there was nothing sad about it. It was a VERY celebratory SEND OFF, probably one of the best ever; such great vibes. I'm so glad I flew out for it...The artist Olivia De Barardinis, as a painter, has fine tuned her painting skills to such a level; the faces are like photographs. She's an unbelievable portrait painter. She did eight new large paintings and a lot of small paintings for this show. The show was primarily for her art, but there were probably ten other artists in the show, including Colin Christian, Bunny Yeager, Ed Mironiuk, Jim Silke, Claudette Barjoud, Jason Sallin, Austin Young, and more."

We caught up with Dan Whitsett of Secrets In Lace on a trip to NYC. He treated us to an exclusive look at the Bettie Page Lingerie Collection.
