Bettie Scout Joey (and her tattoos) visited Bettie Page's grave.

She discovered that someone rubbed a heart shape into the white area (see attached photo) that was not there when the stone was placed.

It looked like Bettie had just received a fresh flower delivery. Visitors also left coins on the stone.

Joey noted that Marilyn Monroe's marker (close to Bettie's) was covered in lip prints.

Thanks Ti,
My daughter (who is just turned 22) was born on 04/23 and she melted my heart that day at the cemetery when she asked if I wanted to make it "a thing" every year to visit Bettie and celebrate their birthdays together. She isn't a crazy Bettie fan like me, which I really can't blame her for since she has had to deal with my obsession most of her life.

I will never forget though, when she was in 7th grade and had to choose someone famous to do a book report on and she chose Bettie. Her teacher said it wouldn't be appropriate and Alex disagreed and took her complaint to the Principal's office!! She lost the fight in the end and did her report on Grace Kelly, but she defended Bettie like a champ. The Principal called me to let me know what was going on and I asked him what the problem was. Not exactly the response he was looking for.

I've seen your posts about having a passion for collecting Bettie figurines, but I've never seen anything from you about what originally lit the fire under your Bettie passions. Can you give us a Reader's Digest recap about how you first found out about Bettie, what appealed to you about her, and why she became an obsession?

Out of wild curiosity, what reason did the teacher give about why it wouldn't be appropriate? Was it that they didn't want show and tell of Bettie's hot body around hormone driven adolescents, or was it because Bettie has never been (as I've posted all over the place around this Forum) famous?

Harry Knowles (of Ain't It Cool News) used the phrase "cult famous" to describe Bettie, but it hit me as off-kilter due to its contradictory logic. To be famous, one must be a household name, with an instantly recognizable photo. I have lost count of how many people stare blankly at Bettie's photos. Being a cult figure is far removed from fame.

Bettie's pop culture influences have raised her cult bar, but that bar has yet to cross into the "fame" range. Herb and I doubt Bettie will ever be famous.

P.S. Speaking of Harry Knowles, I spotted a blurb posted around an hour ago... special for comic book geeks under convention-going rubrics who adore the San Diego con. So, Mark Mori!.... get your documentary into another documentary by going large while they're filming! It could be the documentary version of Certs!.... two docs in one!?!

Speaking of people who leave mementos for Bettie:

After Bettie died, the Los Vegas Bettie Page Boutique found themselves with an influx of fans who wanted to share their feelings. Fox News in Vegas archived the piece they ran.

If you've never seen what Jan Glaser looks like, along with Tatyana (standing next to Glaser), Glaser was interviewed for the piece.

Go to the Fox website to see the video:

I discovered Bettie for the first time in a tattoo shop on my 30th birthday. Most shops have lots of pin up books on their shelves for reference material. So, I was browsing the books for something to read during my tattoo and pulled out Bunny's Honeys and there she was. I went home and searched the net for more info on her and was intrigued by her story, then on to ebay for collectibles and the obsession grew from there.

As far as my daughter's school's problem with Bettie...they thought she was nothing but a porn star and couldn't be convinced otherwise. We live in an uppity town in Southern California...thinking out of the box and being different is definately not encouraged at the schools here. :(
