Many moons ago, when Herb's authorized Bettie Page performance piece (Betty Page Talks Sin: A Lecture/Demonstration) was still a work in progress, we desperately needed art for our show's posters, letterhead, business cards, programs and such. Charlie Athanas generously allowed us to use the fabulous Bettie image that he'd just completed.

Charlie created an oversized multimedia rendering of Bettie and Elvis. We cropped out Elvis because he didn't exist in Herb's show. If you have a copy of the Essex/Swanson authorized Bettie bio, you can see how Charlie's creation was used on one of our buttons (page 236).

Unfortunately, Charlie never documented the entire illo because it was the pre-digital era. To see the panel we used, plus one more that Charlie did document from that illustration, plus the story behind its unwanted sale, plus Charlie's feelings about Bettie, check out Charlie's blog:
